I'm running away...

...to join the circus!

I've always wanted to do something that scared the shit out of me - I want to challenge myself, to fly, to soar, to contort myself. And so I'm signing up for NICA's summer short course. A one week intensive of 2 hours every night to try a variety of skills - juggling, tumbling, acro-balance, static trapeze, aerial ring, plate spinning, tissu, hula hoops, diabolo, tightwire and more. It's the week before Arc (last session is Arc's first evening) and sounds awesome. Ever since I stopped ballet my body's been itching to be active, to be pushed to its limits again - naginata's great but it doesn't provide the same release that the splits, jumping through the air or holding contortions does. Squee!

Oh, and there may be some more part-time work on the horizon *crosses fingers*

So today is better than yesterday - still occasionally pissy but that's not really surprising :)

The stars, they make me smile

Yes, I should be in bed dreaming/nightmaring of non-consecutive numbers but mum rang up to tell me I should go look at the moon. 'twas so cute I had to take a piccy and share it - if you get a chance go gaze skyward for the universe, it is happy with us :)

I'm not 100% certain but if my reading of the planetariums rising times are right then the two planets are most probably Jupiter and Venus.

Falling in love

Hehe - I think I've fallen in love with Ivan Lloyd who's musical director for ABC Classic radio's Breakfast program, a man who sees nothing wrong with playing Monty Python's Galaxy Song right after Jupiter by Holst.  Truly classy :)

Eating your greens...

[info]miss_rynn is an evil influence. After her cake of green glory last week at gaming I was inspired to bake a load of green-tea cupcakes...and then smother their munchable tops in a chocolate ganache. Wednesday night roleplayers -  you have been warned! :)

I guess it does conquer all...

I spent 7 hours photocopying at the AFI today. And yet I'm feeling ridiculously happy. Ain't love grand? :D

Happy thought

book
Ian (big-man-teacher-guy) pointed out today in Cataloguing that anthology comes from the Greek word for garland or bouquet and that every collection of short stories I've ever read is therefore a hand-picked bundle of flowers in bloom. Well, I guess it makes sense - books do have leaves after all. It also explains why I get all girlishly melty and happy when I get a book off someone*  :)

*So more thanks and hugs to [info]delwyn for the last bouquet he gave me! (Even if I do have to give it back eventually ;)

I'm definitely not cut out for veganism. Or even vegetarianism. As for gluten-free...well, that I could probably handle. However, in an attempt to try and find some tasty recipes that could be used in the event that I end up doing more in the Arcanacon canteen next year I've had to deprive my stomach of tasty, tasty animals. I have a batch of apple, walnut and raisin cookies with dark chocolate which are both vegan and gluten-free - they taste better than they did last night but that could be that I'd appreciate almost anything after trying to eat my other attempt - a vegan pasta sauce containing tofu, mushrooms, basil, garlic and tomatoes. It smells quite good but if there were a McBlandy award this would tromp the rest of the field. Also, since I made the sauce last night and reheated it it's got the consistency but not even the flavour of Clag. While Clag is all well and good in Grade 2 as a food group I don't think it's something that'd sell well to your average gamer.

So, does anyone have any vegan/vegetarian or gluten-free recipes that are a) reasonably easy to make, b) fairly inexpensive, and c) tasty? Cos right now I'm feeling pouty and more than a little bit sulky about the whole affair :)  So, c'mon - prove to me that food without animal products doesn't taste like cardboard and glue!

Giving Thanks

  • Mar. 25th, 2008 at 10:46 AM
So sleepy
This weekend I had an epiphany. I've never been religiously inclined - the idea of some all-seeing, all-knowing creature has always seemed a bit bizarre to me. And yet, on Friday night I came to believe. I had the most spiritual and awe-inspiring experience of my life - I shed a tear or two it was so beautiful, touching and powerful. You can laugh ([info]delwynwas:) but I've never felt more at one with the universe, more in touch and complete. Mind, body and soul came together and rejoiced and gave itself over to paeans of praise, hymns of love and joy and unity. I prayed and thanked my new god, who I realise now was there all the time, but whom I had in my foolish naivete ignored and belittled. For I know now, that s/he exists for nothing else could have explained that heavenly touch of a Squire's Loft Angus eye fillet steak. Oh, Great Cow of Tasty, I give thee thanks and praise! Om. Om Nom Nom. Om Nom. Amen.

I'm not kidding, I did actually get tearful after the first taste. I'd heard great things of Squire's Loft previously but I never imagined a steak could be so orgasmically delicious. Even just thinking about it is giving me shivers down the spine (though that could be the airconditioning). So, thanks to Del, I'll never look at a steak the same again :)

What else happened this weekend? Oh, yes, that Conquest-y thing. I don't recall much of it - I'm pretty sure I was running on automatic. Rego desk has this strangely hypnotic and sleep-inducing atmosphere - by the end of the con I was inexplicably exhausted and my mind was missing several hours of each day. Thanks to all the various lovely peoples who took pity on me and gave me hugs, cuddles, love and back-rubs. It's entirely to them that I attribute my sanity and the last vestiges of coherence. :)

Random things...

Evil, evil Ebay. So full of shiny, purty things just begging me to bid on them...like bundle lots of Swarowski crystal beads for jewellery making. So far I'm up to almost 1000 different crystals ranging from 3mm up to 6mm in a variety of colours *headdesk* Ah well, guess I'll have no excuse not to try my hand at a few new pieces - now to buy a whole lot of fine silver wire and try weaving some chokers. Requests, anyone? :)

Playtested Mark and

[info]mousebane 's Conquest game last night at [info]morsla and [info]aeliel 's - awesome fun, very entertaining and a nice simple system that even a complete fluff-head like me could follow. Don't have anything lined up for the rest of the con except for helping out at Don't Mention The War (if they still need me). Otherwise I'll probably be haunting rego and the trader stalls barring naginata Saturday morning and a possible family gathering on the Sunday.

And just because I think it makes its point quite well http://www.dothetest.co.uk/

brokey
I have discovered the ultimate diet - megadeathcolds! Sneeze and blow your nose to a new, slimmer you!

I'm apparantly paying for my reasonably long run of good health by suffering the cold from Hell (no, it's not frozen over, they just left the aircon on). It pounced on me on Wednesday night during character creation at [info]miss_rynn's - I'd been feeling quite good and then, bam! Insta-cold - just add phlegm. :(  I'm hoping against hope that I haven't infected anyone because I'd hate for anyone to feel quite as shitty as I do right now; very, very sorry to anyone I may have passed it on to.

So this weekend, unless the Splutterfest of Doom departs as swiftly as it came, I think I'll be in my bunk. Sneezing.
